2022 Subaru Legacy Review, Pricing, What to Expect
Posted on July 26, 2021
Crossover SUVs are a dime a dozen in the modern auto market, but there are still a few options available for those looking for the more traditional style and handling of a high-end sedan. The Subaru Legacy remains one of the most popular sedan models, thanks to its combination of family-friendly comfort and genuine power under the hood.
Subaru has recently announced a new refresh for this best-selling model, and our 2022 Subaru Legacy review shows the features and pricing you can expect when the car arrives in our showroom.
Muscular Design
The Legacy makes a strong virtue out of the sedan format, pairing a sleek front end with a backswept roofline and a chunky rear to give a muscular design that inspires confidence. The large front grille and sharp headlights lead on to a grooved hood and an angled-back windshield, hinting at the power available under the hood, while the downward-curving rear has more than a touch of coupe sports style that combines aggression with streamlined aerodynamics.
Power Under the Hood
There are two main choices of engine for the 2022 Legacy, both coming with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive. The standard 2.5L four-cylinder option puts out a healthy 182 horsepower and 175lb-ft of torque, an ample amount for a mid-size sedan at this price point. However, move up to the 2.4L turbo making 260 hp and 277lb-ft and the Legacy takes performance to the next level, with plenty of zip for both city and highway driving.
Luxurious Interior
Every model in the 2022 Legacy range boasts an upscale level of interior comfort, with standard features including automatic climate control, powered driver's seat, and heated front seats. Higher trims up the ante with heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and luxurious leather upholstery, making the Legacy look just as good on the inside as out.
Advanced Tech
The entry-level Legacy comes with dual 7" infotainment touchscreens with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth as standard. Moving up the trims switches to a generous 11.6" touchscreen and also adds navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and a premium 12-speaker audio system.
Active Safety Systems
Subaru is known for the generous amount of safety tech fitted to every vehicle, and the 2022 Legacy doesn't stray from that path. Standard highlights include forward collision warnings with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warnings with centring assist, automatic high-beam, and steering responsive headlights.
Optional extras on the higher trims include blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, lane change assist, automatic reverse emergency braking, and a driver alertness monitor.
2022 Subaru Legacy Pricing
Official Canadian pricing for the Legacy starts at $26,795 for the Convenience trim with the 2.5L engine. At the top end, the Premier GT with the 2.4L turbo mill comes in at $39,595, with three other options in between,
